The New York Islanders secured a gritty 4-1 victory against the Toronto Maple Leafs despite playing with a shortened bench. Anthony Duclair opened the scoring in the first period, while Bo Horvat extended the lead to 2-0 in the second. Simon Holmstrom sealed the victory in the third period by scoring two goals, including an empty-netter, while goaltender Ilya Sorokin made 28 saves to defend the lead.
The win proved costly for New York, as forwards Cal Ritchie and Matias Maccelli both exited the game with injuries in the first period. Maccelli required assistance off the ice following an awkward leg injury. Toronto scored their lone goal when Matthew Schaefer deflected a point shot in the third period, but the Islanders' penalty kill successfully held off Toronto's power play opportunities.
