The New York Islanders could be looking at a very tough break for Matias Maccelli, amid a strong start to the season.

The New York Islanders defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-1 on Saturday, but the victory was marred by an injury to Matias Maccelli. The forward exited during the first period with an awkward fall resulting in a lower-body injury. Medical expert Dr. Harjas Grewal suggested Maccelli might face a high ankle sprain, an MCL injury, or potentially a torn ACL.
The Islanders also lost forward Calum Ritchie to a lower-body injury after just one shift in the first period. Despite playing with 10 forwards, New York secured the win behind two goals from Simon Holmstrom, a goal and an assist from Bo Horvat, and 28 saves by Ilya Sorokin.
