New York Islanders head coach Pete DeBoer announced on Monday that forwards Matias Maccelli and Calum Ritchie will miss at least a week after suffering lower-body injuries. Both players were hurt during Saturday's 4-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs and are undergoing further medical evaluations to determine the full severity of their conditions.
Meanwhile, the injuries will not expedite the recovery timeline for star winger Mathew Barzal, who remains sidelined while nursing a prior knee injury. Barzal has resumed skating on his own, but DeBoer confirmed there is no timetable for his season debut. In response to the roster shortages, New York recalled forward Mitchell Chaffee from AHL Hamilton.
