“This is a place that he wanted to raise our family."

The New York Islanders and the Tunnel to Towers Foundation surprised FDNY widow Hope McHale by paying off her mortgage and covering college tuition for her twin sons. The emotional announcement took place during an Islanders game at UBS Arena, where the family attended as guests of team co-owner Jon Ledecky.
McHale's late husband, Fire Marshal and 9/11 responder Martin "Woody" McHale, died on Christmas Eve in 2012 following a heart attack. In addition to honoring Woody on the Jumbotron, the Islanders raised $34,000 for Tunnel to Towers through their game-night raffle.
