New York Islanders rookie forward Victor Eklund has drawn high praise from his coach and teammates for his hockey intelligence following a fast start to his NHL career. The 20-year-old scored his first career NHL goal during a 6-0 win over the New Jersey Devils on Saturday night at UBS Arena, converting a pass from Cal Ritchie after forcing a turnover.
Head coach Pete DeBoer highlighted Eklund's exceptional hockey IQ, while veteran linemate Brayden Schenn commended the Swedish winger's detailed off-puck play and defensive responsibility. Selected 16th overall in the 2025 NHL Draft, Eklund has recorded three points across his first three career NHL games.
