The New York Rangers have placed newly acquired backup goaltender Joonas Korpisalo on Injured Reserve with a lower-body injury. According to beat writer Mollie Walker and insider Peter Baugh, Korpisalo is considered week-to-week, prompting New York to call up goaltender Dylan Garand to provide depth.
Korpisalo joined the Rangers this offseason via a trade from the Boston Bruins following the retirement of veteran Jonathan Quick. With Korpisalo sidelined, Garand is likely in line to make his season debut on Friday unless starting goaltender Igor Shesterkin starts on back-to-back nights.
