On a recent podcast appearance, former New York Rangers defenseman Keith Yandle shared some interesting insight about why he chose to leave the team after the 2015-16 season.

Former NHL defenseman Keith Yandle revealed on the "Wingmen" podcast that he rejected a contract extension from the New York Rangers in 2016 because he believed the team was declining. Yandle noted that key players were departing and that the Rangers' competitive window was closing, prompting him to seek a new destination ahead of unrestricted free agency.
After turning down New York's offer, Yandle requested a move to the Florida Panthers, drawn by their young core including Aleksander Barkov and Aaron Ekblad. The Rangers traded his negotiating rights to Florida, where he subsequently signed a seven-year, $44.5 million contract before free agency officially opened.
