New captain (and Dad) Thomas Chabot had two points in a 3-2 win over Toronto, but a concerning injury to star defenseman Jake Sanderson cast a shadow over a hard-fought win.

Stephen Halliday scored a third-period power-play goal to propel the Ottawa Senators to a 3-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night. New captain Thomas Chabot led Ottawa with a goal and an assist, while Michael Amadio also scored. Auston Matthews and Kirill Marchenko provided the goals for Toronto, with Linus Ullmark stopping 27 shots for Ottawa.
The victory was clouded by an injury to star defenseman Jake Sanderson, who left after just six shifts with an apparent leg injury. Ottawa improved its all-time opening night record against Toronto to 8-1 as they held off late Maple Leafs pressure.
