The Ottawa Senators received some bad news in their season opener. During Saturday’s 3-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs, defenseman Jake Sanderson was forced to leave for Ottawa’s dressing room with an injury.
Ottawa Senators defenseman Jake Sanderson suffered an injury and was forced to leave Saturday's 3-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Senators confirmed that Sanderson would not return after he logged just 4:29 of ice time. The injury reportedly occurred during the first period when he fell awkwardly following an engagement along the boards with Toronto forward Nick Paul.
Sanderson is currently in the third season of an eight-year, $64.4 million contract with Ottawa. The 24-year-old defenseman recorded 54 points in 67 regular-season games last season. The Senators are scheduled to play their next game on Monday when they visit the Boston Bruins.
