The Senators make the best of several viable choices.
The Ottawa Senators have named defenseman Thomas Chabot as the 11th captain in franchise history. The 29-year-old is the longest-tenured member of the team, originally selected by Ottawa with the 18th overall pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. The announcement came alongside his wife Marion and their newborn child in the team locker room.
Entering his 10th season with Ottawa, Chabot ranks 13th in franchise history with 569 games played and 335 points. He steps into the captaincy following Brady Tkachuk's departure, joining a leadership group that includes Jake Sanderson, Tim Stützle, and Claude Giroux.
