A cross-check to the back has sidelined the veteran winger, who was in the process of securing a top-six forward role.

Ottawa Senators head coach Travis Green confirmed that forward Andre Burakovsky is not expected to play in Saturday's regular-season opener against Toronto. Burakovsky suffered an upper-body injury against the Montreal Canadiens after being cross-checked into the boards by Arber Xhekaj and has not skated since. He joins defenseman Artem Zub on the list of sidelined players ahead of the opener.
The injury disrupts a promising training camp for the 31-year-old winger, whom Ottawa acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks in June for a sixth-round draft pick. Burakovsky is entering the final year of a five-year, $27.5 million contract before becoming an unrestricted free agent.
