The Ottawa Senators placed 24-year-old goaltender Leevi Merilainen on waivers ahead of the 2026-27 NHL regular season. As a result of the roster cut, Merilainen will not be included on Ottawa's Opening Night roster and is eligible to be claimed by another team.
Merilainen struggled during the 2025-26 season, recording an .860 save percentage across 20 appearances for Ottawa. That followed a strong 2024-25 campaign where he delivered a .925 save percentage in 12 NHL games alongside an AHL save percentage of .913 in 37 games.
