Flyers’ Trevor Zegras penalized for ‘improperly wearing equipment’

Philadelphia Flyers forward Trevor Zegras was assessed a two-minute minor penalty for delay of game after tucking his jersey into his pants during a 2-0 preseason victory against the Boston Bruins on Thursday night. Referee Jon McIsaac issued the penalty at 9:51 of the second period at Xfinity Mobile Arena after Zegras had previously received an initial warning earlier in the contest.

The penalty comes as part of an NHL-wide crackdown on equipment infractions entering the season, which also focuses on visors, helmets, and protective gear. Flyers head coach Rick Tocchet noted teams were informed of the enforcement weeks prior, reminding players that such infractions cannot occur once the regular season begins.
