The Buffalo Sabres shut out the San Jose Sharks 2-0 at SAP Center despite a standout performance from goaltender Yaroslav Askarov. Askarov made 38 saves on 39 shots, marking his third consecutive start with a save percentage of .900 or better, but San Jose's offense failed to capitalize on multiple scoring chances.
Buffalo opened the scoring in the second period with a goal from Olen Zellweger that slipped through Askarov. Zach Benson sealed the victory for the Sabres with a late empty-net goal in the third period after stripping the puck from Sharks rookie Otto Stenberg.
