Writer Timur Katsnelson argues that goaltender Yaroslav Askarov faces a critical, high-pressure season with the San Jose Sharks. Following a full year of NHL experience, the 24-year-old enters the upcoming campaign facing heightened expectations to establish himself as the franchise's prime talent in net.
Katsnelson highlights Askarov's explosive mobility, swagger, and hockey intelligence as key strengths over competing Sharks netminders Alex Nedeljkovic, Eric Comrie, and Ilya Samsonov. However, the writer notes that Askarov still needs to refine technical movements and avoid overexertion in the crease.
