Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now argues that San Jose Sharks winger Tyler Toffoli is showing early signs of a comeback campaign. Toffoli scored a greasy first-half goal in San Jose's 3-2 overtime win against the St. Louis Blues on Thursday, giving him two goals in four games to open the season, despite a costly power-play turnover that led to a Dillon Dube short-handed goal.
Peng notes that Toffoli shed 13 pounds over the summer and has returned to his habit of attacking high-danger areas. Micro-stats show Toffoli leading Sharks forwards with 2.23 High-Danger Scoring Chances Per 60, rebounding from a 19-goal slump last season, while head coach Ryan Warsofsky and teammate Darnell Nurse praised his performance.
