Lightning Legend Reacts to Nikita Kucherov’s Trade Request

Former Tampa Bay Lightning captain Steven Stamkos expressed surprise following reports that star forward Nikita Kucherov has requested a trade. Speaking after his Nashville Predators defeated Tampa Bay 5-4 in a shootout on Saturday, Stamkos admitted the news caught him off guard while praising his former teammate. Lightning general manager Julien BriseBois stated the club does not intend to trade Kucherov, despite reports indicating the forward will not re-sign.

Kucherov is currently playing in the final year of an eight-year, $76 million contract and holds a modified no-trade clause featuring a 10-team approved list. According to reports cited in the article, Kucherov sought a six-year extension valued near $20 million per season. Meanwhile, head coach Jon Cooper affirmed that the team's goals remain unchanged and noted Kucherov remains committed to the squad.
