A major storyline has come out tonight as the Red Wings are “closing in” on a seven-year extension with forward Alex DeBrincat, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
The Detroit Red Wings are reportedly closing in on a seven-year contract extension with forward Alex DeBrincat, according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet. While not yet official, the new deal is expected to carry an average annual value of $13 million. The agreement keeps the Farmington Hills native committed to Detroit through his age-35 season, preventing him from hitting unrestricted free agency.
DeBrincat originally joined Detroit in July 2023 via trade from the Ottawa Senators before signing a four-year, $7.9 million AAV deal. The extension secures a foundational offensive piece alongside Lucas Raymond and Moritz Seider as the franchise prepares for significant cap space next summer under interim general manager Shawn Horcoff.
