Sometimes the answer to a hockey team's problems isn't sitting on the trade market. It might be developing in its own system, waiting for a chance. That's the question facing the Toronto Maple Leafs as they look for help on…
The Toronto Maple Leafs have internally discussed calling up defensive prospect Ben Danford from the Toronto Marlies to address defensive struggles, according to reporter James Mirtle. Professor Press Box argues that promoting Danford from within the system is an idea worth considering rather than spending valuable assets on the trade market. Mirtle suggested Danford could handle around 15 minutes of ice time per night based on his AHL playoff performance.
However, Danford is currently sidelined with a day-to-day lower-body injury, delaying any immediate call-up until he returns to health. Professor Press Box notes that while Danford cannot resolve all of Toronto's defensive issues immediately, granting him NHL experience would allow the organization to evaluate his future role or potential trade value in a realistic setting.
