I've always thought one of the more interesting things about following a hockey team is watching a young player develop into something you didn't necessarily expect.
Professor Press Box argues that Vancouver Canucks defenseman Elias Pettersson, known as D-Petey, has the potential to develop into a future top-pairing shutdown blueliner. While Pettersson produced modest offensive numbers with 10 points in 70 games last season, the writer highlights his defensive focus, physical engagement, and ability to handle difficult assignments.
Pettersson started the current season with a goal in a 4-1 victory against Calgary on October 3. Through three games, he recorded four hits, six blocks, and a plus-4 rating while competing for minutes on Vancouver's third pairing.
