The Vancouver Canucks have officially released 32-year-old goaltender Chris Driedger from his professional tryout agreement ahead of their season opener against the Edmonton Oilers. According to CHEK TV's Rick Dhaliwal, Driedger did not earn a standard contract following his tryout during training camp.

The decision comes after the Canucks claimed goaltender Leevi Merilainen off waivers from the Ottawa Senators. Driedger spent the 2025-26 season with Traktor Chelyabinsk in the KHL after previous NHL stints with the Seattle Kraken and Florida Panthers.
