When the Winnipeg Jets claimed Clay Stevenson off waivers, I suspect a few fans looked at the list of available goalies and thought, “Why him?” Stevenson isn’t the biggest name on that list.
The Winnipeg Jets have claimed goaltender Clay Stevenson off waivers to address depth concerns in net. With Connor Hellebuyck suspended after requesting a trade and failing to report to training camp, Stuart Skinner has taken over the starting role. Stevenson provides immediate support as an NHL-ready backup over prospect Domenic DiVincentiis.
Stevenson, 27, holds an $850,000 cap hit with one year remaining on his contract. He posted a 3-1-0 record and a .921 save percentage in four appearances for the Washington Capitals last season, along with an 18-13-3 record for the AHL Hershey Bears.
