Maja Chwalinska and Sonay Kartal achieved significant rises in the latest WTA rankings following their performances in the Wuhan Open final. Chwalinska secured her first WTA 1000 title by defeating Kartal 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, rising 11 places to reach a career-high ranking of world number 11. Kartal also surged in the rankings, moving to world number 149 and overtaking Katie Boulter to become the new British number one.
Chwalinska defeated top opponents including Iga Swiatek and Iva Jovic en route to the title, putting her on the verge of entering the world's top 10. Kartal, who entered the tournament using a protected ranking after a six-month injury layoff with a stress fracture in her lower back, climbed 121 spots. Chwalinska plans to skip the Ningbo Open before concluding her 2026 season at the Tokyo Open.
