Aryna Sabalenka has welcomed the WTA's decision to introduce equal prize money across all combined WTA 1000 events from 2027, describing the long-awaited change as something players have been pushing for.
Aryna Sabalenka strongly endorsed the WTA's decision to establish equal prize money across all combined WTA 1000 events starting in 2027. Speaking at the China Open in Beijing after defeating Renata Zarazua 6-1, 6-3, the world No. 2 stated that female players deserve equal pay and have pushed for this change for a long time.
The policy will expand equal payouts to Rome, the Canadian Open, and Cincinnati alongside existing equal-pay events. Additionally, Sabalenka was named to the newly formed Grand Slam Players' Council alongside Elena Rybakina, Jessica Pegula, Elina Svitolina, Iva Jovic, and Maria Sakkari.
