The Story in 60 Seconds

The NFL and NFLPA issued a joint statement clarifying that celebrations imitating drinking a beverage will not result in discipline. The clarification follows an incident where the NFL initially fined San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk $14,926 for a Week 3 touchdown celebration misidentified as chugging beer. The league subsequently rescinded the fine after Juszczyk appealed, explaining the routine was an ode to his nickname, "Juice."

Despite permitting beverage-drinking gestures, the NFL reiterated that several other celebratory actions remain strictly prohibited. The league stated that demonstrations depicting violence, weapons, gang signs, smoking, drug use, or sexually suggestive gestures will still incur a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, a fine, or both.
