Darren Eales has spoken about his time as Newcastle United CEO in a new interview

Former Newcastle United CEO Darren Eales has spoken out regarding the club's past compliance with Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR), taking a subtle swipe at Manchester City. Speaking to The Athletic, Eales defended Newcastle's compliance record and the necessary player sales that protected the club from potential points deductions. His comments follow reports that an independent commission found Manchester City guilty of 114 financial charges.
Eales explained that Newcastle had to sell Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson in 2024 to satisfy financial rules and maintain momentum, despite ownership's vast wealth. He noted that witnessing earlier points deductions handed to Everton and Nottingham Forest influenced their decision to operate strictly within the regulations, emphasizing that Newcastle's ownership insisted on doing things "the right way."
