"The hardest thing I have ever had to tell the person I love."

Elina Svitolina announced on Instagram that she and husband Gael Monfils are ending their marriage after five years together. The 32-year-old Ukrainian tennis player explained that she needs space to heal and find her way back to herself, citing the emotional toll caused by the Russia-Ukraine war. Svitolina emphasized that while their marriage is concluding, their family remains united as co-parents to their young daughter, Skai.
The couple began dating in 2019, married in the summer of 2021, and welcomed their daughter in late 2022. Svitolina stated there is no one to blame and praised Monfils for his grace and support throughout their relationship. The announcement follows reports that Monfils quietly retired from professional tennis earlier in the month, shortly after the pair competed together in mixed doubles at the US Open.
