The veteran winger leapfrogged projections during his Dallas debut, swapping into a high-octane top-six role that could reshape the lineup and spark an immediate offensive impact.

Veteran forward David Perron skated on the Dallas Stars' second line alongside Roope Hintz and Jason Robertson during his first team practice on Monday. The 38-year-old winger recently signed a one-year, pro-rated contract worth $850,000 with the team. While Perron rotated in for Tyler Seguin during line drills, he is not expected to make his Dallas debut when the team hosts the Boston Bruins on Tuesday.
The roster experiment shifted captain Jamie Benn to third-line duties alongside Justin Hryckowian and Arttu Hyry under head coach Glen Gulutzan. Perron, who will wear number 16 for Dallas, split last season between the Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings, tallying 28 total points in 61 appearances.
