Caleb Downs has delivered more highs than lows early in his Cowboys career. But why hasn't he looked like a superstar yet?

Writer Jason Kandel argues that Dallas Cowboys rookie Caleb Downs has yet to look like a superstar primarily because defensive injuries have forced him to play out of position at nickel cornerback. The No. 11 overall pick struggled in coverage against receiver Matthew Golden during the Cowboys' 23-13 loss to the Green Bay Packers, conceding seven receptions for 76 yards according to Pro Football Focus.
Kandel explains that defensive coordinator Christian Parker is demanding too much early on, with Downs logging roughly 99 percent of defensive snaps. Despite coverage challenges in the slot, Downs led Dallas with 12 tackles against Green Bay and continues to excel in run support, leading Kandel to conclude the rookie will eventually thrive once his role stabilizes.
