Kurt Suzuki was never in a position to succeed as the manager of the Los Angeles Angels, and his departure was always inevitable.

The Los Angeles Angels have relieved manager Kurt Suzuki of his managerial duties while offering him a separate organizational role. Writer Evan Roberts of Halo Hangout argues that the franchise set Suzuki up for failure from the beginning, noting that no manager could have succeeded with the roster constructed prior to the mid-season firing of former general manager Perry Minasian.
Roberts points out that Suzuki received only a one-year deal with options, reflecting organizational dysfunction and upcoming lockout considerations. He highlights that the mid-season dismissals of Minasian and pitching coach Mike Maddux left Suzuki scapegoated, while potential managerial candidates going forward include Albert Pujols, Dan Wilson, or Torii Hunter.
