A second look at Teruaki Sato's positional versatility could convince the Texas Rangers that he's worth signing to bolster their middling offense.

The Texas Rangers recently scouted Japanese slugger Teruaki Sato, whose NPB team, the Hanshin Tigers, confirmed he will be posted this offseason. Stephen Parello of Nolan Writin' argues that while the Rangers already have third base occupied by Josh Jung and prospect Sebastian Walcott, Sato's past outfield experience could make him an appealing target for right field instead.
Parello suggests deploying Sato in right field would allow Texas to transition Brandon Nimmo into the designated hitter spot, helping improve outfield defense and bolster an offense that struggled in 2026. Sato previously played over 100 games in right field during the 2021 and 2022 seasons, possessing an elite sprint speed and arm strength suited for the position.
