The Red Sox have traded infielder Tsung-Che Cheng to the Tigers, according to a source.

The Boston Red Sox have traded infielder Tsung-Che Cheng to the Detroit Tigers for cash considerations. The move marked the second trade of the day made by Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow, who earlier sent outfielder Nate Eaton to the Athletics in exchange for 18-year-old pitching prospect Jareth Rayo.
The pair of trades clears two spots on Boston's 40-man roster. The Red Sox still need to clear two additional spots by Monday to accommodate seven players returning from the 60-day injured list. Cheng, 25, appeared in 14 games for Boston in 2026, batting .256 across 13 starts at shortstop.
