Flyers try again to fix what has been their biggest problem for years

The Philadelphia Flyers are retooling their struggling power play ahead of the 2026-27 season with an exceptionally young top unit. Coach Rick Tocchet has formed a fivesome consisting of Trevor Zegras, Jamie Drysdale, Tyson Foerster, Matvei Michkov, and Porter Martone. The new configuration saw its first game action in a 2-0 preseason victory against the Boston Bruins, during which Michkov scored an even-strength goal.

Philadelphia is attempting to rebound after finishing last in the NHL in power-play percentage in four of the previous five seasons. With a 14.1 percent success rate since the 2021-22 season, the team hopes this skilled group of young players will provide improved offensive movement and chemistry to turn the unit around.
