‘I’m not really an academic guy’ – Hibs gaffer with PhD in coaching brings ‘off the cuff’ approach to new gig

New Hibernian manager Marink Reedijk is utilizing an international break training trip to La Manga to establish his authority with the squad. The 35-year-old former SK Beveren boss holds a PhD in coaching science, which included a doctoral thesis examining coaching phenomenology, but he insists he considers himself a hands-on practitioner rather than an academic.

Reedijk explained that his academic background aids in structuring thoughts and collaborating with medical and sports science staff, while his coaching approach remains pragmatic and at times off the cuff. Having previously managed at the senior level for two seasons, the trip serves as critical preparation ahead of his first top-flight management role.
