Hurricanes Have Reason for Concern After Pyotr Kochetkov’s Preseason Struggles

Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov has surrendered 11 goals across two preseason appearances, recording an .823 save percentage. He conceded six goals on 34 shots against the Florida Panthers and five goals on 28 shots against the Nashville Predators. The performances have highlighted concerns over the goaltending position following Frederik Andersen's departure to Edmonton.

Brandon Bussi is projected to be Carolina's opening-night starter, with Cayden Primeau serving as depth behind him. Kochetkov appeared in just nine games during the 2025-26 season before undergoing hip surgery. Despite the preseason issues, Carolina previously led the league in shot suppression by allowing just over 23 shots per game.
