Right before rosters were finalized on Monday, Columbus and Toronto made a massive deal to swap star wingers, so of course it affects the Hurricanes, too.
The Columbus Blue Jackets and Toronto Maple Leafs completed a major trade ahead of Monday's season-opening roster deadline. Columbus traded Kirill Marchenko, Elvis Merzlikins, and Miles Wood to Toronto in exchange for Matthew Knies, Steven Lorentz, Emil Andrae, and Seattle's 2027 second-round pick.
Along with the trade, Marchenko agreed to a six-year, $75 million contract extension with the Maple Leafs. Columbus retained 18 percent of Merzlikins' cap hit, with the goaltender sidelined following recent shoulder surgery.
