Padres Dominate Cubs In 8-0 Shutout

The San Diego Padres defeated the Chicago Cubs 8-0 in Game 1 of the National League Wild Card Series on Tuesday night. Michael King led the pitching effort, tossing seven scoreless innings and allowing only one hit while striking out eight batters. Yuki Matsui and Joe Musgrove completed the three-hit shutout out of the bullpen.

San Diego built an early lead with back-to-back first-inning home runs from Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado. Xander Bogaerts also hit a solo home run, while Jackson Merrill drove in two runs with a fifth-inning single to secure a 1-0 series lead.
