The Boston Bruins are seeking a trade partner for 27-year-old defenseman Henri Jokiharju, according to reports from Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman and RG's Jimmy Murphy. Jokiharju cleared waivers on Monday before being assigned to the AHL's Providence Bruins. General manager Don Sweeney cited the team's depth and younger players earning roster spots as the reason for the move.
Jokiharju is in the second season of a three-year, $9 million contract carrying a $3 million annual salary cap hit. In addition to Jokiharju's trade status, Friedman reported that rival NHL clubs are monitoring forward Matt Poitras, who is currently sidelined with a lower-body injury.
