Things were thrown into flux for the Ottawa Senators this summer when captain Brady Tkachuk requested and was granted a trade out of town to the Florida Panthers.
Ottawa Senators head coach Travis Green explained why defenseman Thomas Chabot was named the 11th captain in franchise history. Chabot fills the vacancy created after former captain Brady Tkachuk was traded to the Florida Panthers during the offseason. The veteran defenseman will make his regular season debut wearing the captain's "C" on Saturday in Ottawa's 2026-27 season opener against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Speaking on Daily Faceoff Toronto's Leafs Morning Take, Green described Chabot as an established leader who sacrifices for the team and routinely plays through injuries. Green stated that Chabot was an easy choice because of his loyalty to the city, his teammates, and his growth throughout his career with the franchise.
