Lions flyhalf Chris Smith has signed a three-year contract extension, committing his future to the Johannesburg franchise until 2029. The 32-year-old playmaker joined the Lions in July 2025 following a stint with French Pro D2 side Oyonnax after departing the Bulls in July 2024.
Smith scored 154 points in the 2025/26 United Rugby Championship season, finishing second overall behind Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu and earning his second career Golden Boot Award. His tactical kicking and form have contributed to a six-match home winning streak at Ellis Park.
