Olivier was fined $5,000 for the infraction, which is the largest amount allowable under the NHL’s CBA.

Columbus Blue Jackets forward Mathieu Olivier has received a $5,000 fine from the NHL Department of Player Safety for slashing Florida Panthers defenseman Uvis Balinskis. The incident occurred during the second period of Florida's 7-3 victory on Tuesday night. Olivier struck Balinskis in the groin following physical play along the boards, leading to a five-minute major penalty and a game ejection.
The fine is the maximum allowable under the NHL's collective bargaining agreement and represents the first supplemental discipline of Olivier's eight-season career. Balinskis remained in the contest, while the Panthers secured the win behind a natural hat trick from Brady Tkachuk.
