Freiburg defender Matthias Ginter has extended his contract with the Black Forest outfit.

Defender Matthias Ginter has signed a contract extension with SC Freiburg. While the specific length of the new deal was not disclosed, both the player and the club expressed their satisfaction with continuing their cooperation following a 2025/26 season that saw Freiburg finish as UEFA Europa League runners-up.
The 32-year-old originally debuted for Freiburg in 2012 before returning to the club in July 2022 after stints at Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Mönchengladbach. Freiburg chief sporting officer Jochen Saier highlighted Ginter's consistency and leadership across his 255 competitive appearances for the Breisgau outfit.
