Canadian defender Vanessa Gilles scored two goals to lead Bayern Munich to a 2-1 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach in the DFB-Pokal Round of 32 on Sunday. Gladbach initially took the lead late in the first half courtesy of a goal by Luca Graf. Gilles responded in the second half, converting two set pieces delivered by Klara Bühl in the 74th and 81st minutes to secure the comeback victory for the three-time champions.
The victory advanced Bayern Munich into the DFB-Pokal Round of 16, where they are scheduled to face Bayer Leverkusen and fellow Canadian Caroline Kehrer. Gilles has now recorded five goals across six appearances this season. Following this match, Bayern faces Benfica in the UEFA Women's Champions League and Eintracht Frankfurt in league play before Gilles joins Canada for an international series against Denmark.
