Everton Academy forward Martin Sherif has avoided a playing suspension after receiving a £5,000 fine from the Football Association for betting rule breaches. The 20-year-old was charged in August 2026 over 61 bets placed on football matches between November 2024 and February 2026. Sherif admitted to breaching FA Rule E1.2 by allowing wagers through six accounts funded in his name, though he maintained he did not place them personally.
An Independent Regulatory Commission opted against a sporting ban due to mitigating factors, including Sherif's early admission of guilt, his young age during the violations, and genuine remorse. The forward has since spoken to younger Everton Academy players to warn them about gambling dangers and FA regulations.
