The 20-year-old admitted to causing, permitting, or enabling 61 bets on matches between November 20, 2024, and February 12, 2026. An independent regulatory commission noted that the forward displayed genuine remorse regarding the infractions.

In his defense, Sherif stated that he did not place the bets himself, though he acknowledged they were placed through accounts funded by him and registered in his name. Sherif joined Everton's youth academy in 2019 and spent the latter part of the season on loan at Port Vale, where he scored two goals in 17 appearances.
