Key Things to Know
  • Martin O'Neill questioned the disciplinary perception of Celtic's pitch invasion by contrasting it with Fleetwood Town's celebrations.
  • The Scottish FA upheld a sanction forcing Celtic to play their next home Scottish Cup match behind closed doors.

Celtic manager Martin O'Neill has questioned the perceived inconsistency in how pitch invasions are judged, referencing scenes from Fleetwood Town's Carabao Cup victory over Arsenal. His comments came after the Scottish FA confirmed that Celtic must play their next home Scottish Cup tie behind closed doors following pitch invasion scenes at Ibrox in March.

While an appellate tribunal overturned a suspended second stadium closure and an additional suspended fine, Celtic must still face the immediate closure and pay £100,000 in compensation to the visiting club unless that opponent is Rangers. Celtic described the remaining sanctions as excessive and disproportionate.
