The Story in 60 Seconds

Leicestershire's relegation to Division Two of the County Championship has been officially confirmed after their appeal against a points deduction was rejected. The club had challenged the loss of 19 points imposed due to a substandard pitch prepared for their victory over Glamorgan in August. Alongside the points penalty, Leicestershire received a £5,000 fine, ultimately finishing second from bottom and 17 points behind Essex.

The pitch at Grace Road faced an inspection by England and Wales Cricket Board adviser Andy Mackay after match officials raised concerns. Head groundsman Callum Lewin cited extreme hot weather and an unscheduled Bollywood filming event on the surface prior to the match, but those arguments were dismissed. Chief executive Emma White expressed disappointment over the outcome but vowed the club would fight for promotion from Division Two.
