Christian Horner has called on Formula 1 to rethink and expand its budget cap system, arguing that teams are actually spending between $500 million and $600 million annually. While the current cap stands at $215 million, it excludes major expenses such as driver salaries, top executive pay, travel, marketing, and separate power unit costs. Horner suggested that more expenses should be incorporated into an all-encompassing cap.
Despite his criticisms, Horner acknowledged that the cost regulations have eliminated wasteful spending and transformed teams into highly valuable franchises. However, smaller outfits like Williams remain dissatisfied, with team boss James Vowles stating that top teams benefit disproportionately due to their pre-existing infrastructure.
