Williams Formula 1 driver Carlos Sainz addressed the recent high-speed train collision near Urda, Spain, which claimed 69 lives. Speaking during the Mexico City Grand Prix weekend, Sainz expressed heartbreak over the tragedy and urged Spanish citizens to demand accountability from politicians, noting feelings of letdown after another fatal rail disaster occurred just nine months prior in Adamuz.
The accident occurred on the Madrid-Seville line when a Renfe train struck a stationary Iryo train following rail controller authorization amid communications failures. On track, Sainz endured a difficult Saturday at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, qualifying 16th for the Grand Prix, while Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton claimed pole position.
