McLaren driver Lando Norris secured pole position for Sunday's Brazilian Grand Prix following a rain-delayed qualifying session at Interlagos on Saturday. Norris posted a session-best time of 1m27.470s on intermediate tires during the final Q3 shootout to finish ahead of Mercedes driver George Russell by two-tenths of a second.
Russell faces a five-place grid penalty, and fourth-placed Charles Leclerc holds a 10-place engine penalty, elevating Racing Bulls driver Liam Lawson to third on Sunday's starting grid. The session experienced an initial delay of more than an hour due to severe aquaplaning and standing water, which caused multiple red flags across qualifying.
